It is due to the Haitian Revolution that Napolean agreed to sell Lousiana the the territory that the French(Napolean Bonaparte) owned in America to America(Thomas Jefferson President at the time. Napolean made a decision to give up on his French expansion into the new world because he was unable to quelch the uprising in Haiti, in turn this made him sell Louisiana to us..meaning the United States and in turn this is how we earned the midwest and further states west of the Mississippi River. So I largely agree with your assumption that we spend way to much of our time and OUR money(taxpayers) assisting other governments with their research, relief efforts,homelessness etc. Take care of home first should be something our government truly learns to do and not intervening in other countries affiars, elections etc. The reason why Haiti is going to get our assistance is due to the fact that they assisted our country in being what it is today.
