ANGRY MINUTE #0029: Celebrity Heroes or Villains?

Posted by Masked D-Bag #8 on Feb 10, 2010 in Angry Minute

What is a hero? What is a villain? Once these terms were opposites, but in this crazy world we live in it seems that more and more these terms can mean the same. Our heroes are falling from grace, becoming villains before our eyes. And the ironic thing here is we are allowing them to still be heroes, even after showing their true colors. So I wanted to use today’s article to call out some of those who are heroes in the eyes of people, and then decide what they truly are inside.

THE LIST OF ANGER PRESENTS – HERO OR VILLAIN?!?!

1. Kobe Bryant: Basketball great, 4-time NBA Champion. He is a hero to many basketball fans (why people still watch basketball is beyond me, but whatever floats your boat). Yet it is in my view that a hero should be honorable, and Kobe Bryant is not. In 2003 Kobe was accused of raping a 19-year old hotel employee. Bryant denied that he raped the girl, but admitted to having an affair with her. The case was dropped later and the answer of “Is Kobe a Rapist?” still hasn’t been answered. But the answer to “Is Kobe a Scumbag?” was answered easily with a YES! Cheating on your wife, who just gave birth to your daughter the same year, makes Kobe a VILLAIN in my book. And maybe he DID rape that girl back in 2003, but with all his money there is no way we will ever know that truth from a covered up lie. People shouldn’t cheer him, he should be boo’ed!!!! “Oh he made a mistake?” BULLSHIT! He made a CHOICE and that choice was to be unfaithful. Out kids shouldn’t think that this behavior is acceptable!!!

2. John Edwards: 2008 Presidential Nominee. He only was having a affair, covered it up in hopes to be elected president (with allegations that campaign money was used to cover up the affair), denied allegations once they were brought to light, and then finally admitted to not only having an affair BUT also having a love child!!!!! Yet he still wants people to think of him as “one of the people” in hopes of still holding an elected office. We need to send a strong message to ALL politicians that there is a MORAL obligation on their parts to represent the people, and if that obligation is not met then they need to not only be removed from office but MADE AN EXAMPLE OUT OF! And to give Mr. Edwards the big VILLAIN stamp is easy, because his wife WHO HE CHEATED ON has cancer. Yah, cheating on you’re dying wife… what an ASSHOLE!

3. Jay Leno: He was the host of the Tonight Show, and then he went to his own crappy show and told Conan O’Brian that he could be the host of the Tonight Show. It was ONLY Conan’s childhood dream. But when Jay’s ratings didn’t pan out he LEAPED at the opportunity to overthrow Conan and take back the Tonight Show reigns. Personally I have never liked Jay Leno, he is a total douchebag and doesn’t deserve our time. Conan is funnier, smarter, and overall a better talk show host. But all these indiscretions don’t make Leno a villain. I mean his team does have to pay bills, his team does have to eat, and his team does need to work. So no Jay, you are not a villain… but I sure as hell aren’t gonna call you a hero! WE LOVE YOU COCO!!!!!!!

4. Mark McGwire: Yeah, if you read the AngryMinute last week you know what I think of Mark-ROIDS-McGwire! He cheated to become the homerun champ, and then just expects everyone to forgive him? Why the MLB even allows this guy to work for one of their teams is BEYOND me! VILLAIN!!!!

5. Tiger Woods: This one’s gonna hurt. I’m a Tiger fan. He is THE MAN when it comes to golf. I’ve seen the man tear apart his kneecap AND COMEBACK the very next day to win the PGA Championship. The dude is totally unreal when it comes to the sport. Yet even he has fallen from grace. He was easily a Hero before his sexual escapades occurred. He didn’t just cheat on his wife, he cheated on her with pretty much EVERYONE he could find. He’s a “sex addict” and just expects everyone to forgive him for his misdeeds. While it is honorable to admit your mistakes, I find it NONhonorable (or whatever word I should use) that he waited till he GOT CAUGHT! Heroes do the RIGHT thing even in the face of adversity. And while Tiger is THE MAN at golf, he is a VILLAIN in real life. He should be teaching kids good moral values, not the ability to FRAK everything under the sun and then straight face lie to his wife and children. Cheaters, in my book, are the lowest scum on Earth.

Soooo this is just a brief list of people I think shouldn’t be worshiped, though many in society do worship them. Weither it be sports, or politics, or entertainment: these people think they are bigger then the rest of us. They think that they can get away with whatever they want without repercussions. I say NO! Do NOT let your children idolize those who are morally wrong. Want to know what REALLY is wrong with our country? Our children’s “heroes” are nothing but villains in disguise. DISGUSTING!

Do you know of any celebrity “heroes” who are actually villains? List them in the comments and we’ll discuss if they should be cheered by the fans… or if they should be BOO’ed out of existence.

ANGRY MINUTE #0028: MLB’s Double Standard (McGwire vs. Rose)

Posted by Masked D-Bag #8 on Feb 3, 2010 in Angry Minute

Baseball = A Joke

That’s how I feel about America’s EX-Pasttime. Can you blame me? Want an example? Sure, lets take a look at McGwire vs. Rose.

For those who may not know whom these two are I will break the walls down:

Mark McGwire: MLB career from August 22, 1986 – October 7, 2001. This First Baseman is most known for his “Homerun Race” against Sammy Sosa in 1998 where McGwire went on to surpass Roger Maris’ single season home run record (McGwire nailed 70 homeruns in that season). McGwire has won one World Series ring, three Silver Slugger Awards, one Gold Glove, the 1987 AL Rookie of the Year Award, has made 12 All-Star appearances, and was the winner of the 1992 Home Run Derby.

Pete Rose: MLB career from April 8, 1963 – August 17, 1986. Rose played a variety of positions during his career (OF, 3B, 2B, 1B, Mgr). Rose is the all-time Major League leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), and outs (10,328). Rose has won three World Series rings, three batting titles, one MVP Award, two Gold Gloves, the 1963 NL Rookie of the Year Award, and has made 17 All-Star appearances at five different positions.

Even if you don’t know ANYTHING about baseball you can look at those stats and know that these two players have contributed a lot to the game. So what’s my beef with them? Well lets break down the walls even more:

Mark McGwire: Admitted in 2010 that he had used performance-enhancing drugs/steroids throughout his career (including his 1998 homerun record). McGwire never officially “denied” use of steroids when questions during the 1990s, but instead refused to discuss his involvement with or use of steroids until his admission in 2010.

Pete Rose: In 1989 became permanently ineligible for the MLB Hall of Fame due to sports bettings he made while coaching. Rose reportedly bet on 52 games in 1987, but was never proven to bet against his own team (though on multiple occasions he bet FOR his own team). Rose was only found to have gambled in this way from 1985 – 1987. Rose denied any involvement with gambling in this fashion until 1989.

So here is where I start getting pissed. Pete Rose, who bet on his OWN TEAM to win, became ineligible for the MLB Hall of Fame due to these gamblings. MLB says that Rose became ineligible because “that as a manager he could control games, make decisions that could enhance his chances of winning his bets, thus jeopardizing the integrity of the game.”

OK, sure. I guess I can buy that. I don’t think it makes him a horrid person to bet on his own team. If he would have bet AGAINST his own team I could understand. So if MLB takes this stance on Rose for betting on his OWN team then they sure as hell would take an even HARDER line on McGwire and his enhancements. Right?

Wrong!

Yeah, this is the world we live in. Not ONLY has McGwire not been punished for his indiscretions, but he HAS A FRAKING JOB WITH AN MLB TEAM!!! Mark “Roids” McGwire is the hitting coach for his old team, the team he used Roids on and cheated to win accolades and records!

WHAT A FRAKING WORLD!

You wanna know why I hate baseball? Because of shit like this! I would NEVER let my children watch or even be associated with this sport based on such actions. Any sport that PROMOTES the use of steroids is a horrible evil entity. Atleast Pete Rose bet on his OWN team! McGwire CHEATED, yet the big suits over at MLB think its “OK”?!?! Yeah, they probably do because McGwire made them TONS AND TONS OF CASH during his 1998 Homerun race! What about Sammy Sosa? A man who tried to win that title in 1998 under his own power, without the use of illegal steroids? Baseball could care less about all those teams McGwire cheated, lied to, and store from. What hypocrisy!

Baseball, you can go FRAK YOURSELF! You are all nothing more then hypocrites, liars, and cheaters! The MLB’s sense of “wrong vs right” is too messed up for me to ever respect them. When you think gambling on yourself is worse then cheating/lying/stealing then you have some messed up priorities.

As for Pete Rose; he gains my respect for being some humble in the face of adversity.

As for Mark McGwire; I hope he is beat down in a dark alleyway and left for the vultures. You make me sick!!!
